What is Hymnphony

A hymn book, a choir tutor and a rehearsal room, all in your pocket.

Hymn books are heavy, easily lost and rarely include everything a singer needs. Hymnphony gathers the hymns your congregation already sings into one searchable, beautifully typeset library, then adds the things paper never could.

  • Find any hymn in seconds by number, title, tune name, or any line of the text, in English, Fante or Twi.
  • Switch views instantly between words, tonic sol-fa and staff notation without losing your place.
  • Hear how it goes with four part audio. Isolate any voice, slow it down to learn it, or switch between the tunes a hymn is sung to.
  • Carry it everywhere . Once downloaded, nothing needs a network connection.

Key features

Built by people who sing, for people who sing.

Every detail is designed for real use, whether in a pew, at a keyboard, or standing in front of a choir.

Instant, forgiving search

Type a number, a title, a tune name or half a remembered line. Hymnphony finds it, even with typos or alternate spellings.

Tonic sol-fa, done properly

Clean, legible sol-fa laid out for singers, with adjustable text size, a fullscreen view and a night-friendly reading mode.

Staff notation & SATB scores

Crisp, high-resolution scores you can zoom into on a phone or spread across a tablet on the music stand.

Listen and rehearse

Hear all four parts together or isolate soprano, alto, tenor or bass. Slow the playback down while you learn it, skip back ten seconds, and keep it running with the screen off.

Read it your way

Light and dark themes, lyric wallpapers, and your choice of font and size. Set it up the way you read best.

Complete offline access

Download once and everything works on a plane, in a village church or anywhere the signal drops.

Favorites & collections

Star the hymns you return to. Favorites, reading history and downloads are kept separately for each hymnal.

Service & rehearsal plans

Songbooks let you build an ordered hymn list for a service and reorder it with a drag. A free account keeps them synced to you.

Found a mistake?

One tap reports it. Every report is read, so the books keep getting more accurate.

Three ways to read a hymn

Words, sol-fa and score, one tap apart.

Choirs rarely read one way. Hymnphony lets each singer choose the notation they are fluent in, on the very same hymn.

Lyrics view

Large, well-spaced text with verse numbering that stays readable at arm’s length, ideal for the congregation.

Tonic sol-fa view

The notation most choirs across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean grew up with, typeset for screens rather than scanned from paper.

Staff notation view

Full four-part scores for organists, pianists, instrumentalists and formally trained musicians.

A look inside

Designed to disappear, so the music can lead.

Calm typography, generous spacing and a layout that never gets in the way of the singing.

Hymn books & traditions

Your hymnal. Your language. Your tradition.

Hymnphony is built to hold more than one hymn book. Congregations sing from different collections in different languages, and the app is designed to grow with them, with new books added as licensing and permissions allow.

  • Multiple hymn books side by side in a single library.
  • Denominational breadth across the major worshipping traditions.
  • Local languages alongside English, wherever rights permit.
  • Request a book . Tell us what your church sings and help shape what comes next.
Supported hymn books

Rights respected

We work within copyright and add hymn books as permissions allow. Public-domain and licensed material only.

Your data stays yours

No selling of personal information, no tracking of what you sing. Read our plain-English privacy policy.

Made for the church

Built with choirs, organists and music teachers, and shaped continuously by their feedback.

Common questions

Everything you might be wondering.

Is Hymnphony free?

Yes. Hymnphony is free to download, and the core library, search and reading views cost nothing. Some advanced additions may later be offered as an optional upgrade, and we will always be clear about what is included before you pay for anything.

Does it work without internet?

Once a hymn book has been downloaded to your device, everything works completely offline, including the lyrics, sol-fa, scores and audio. You only need a connection to install the app and fetch updates.

Which devices are supported?

Hymnphony runs on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets.

Can I use it during a service?

Absolutely. A distraction-free reading mode with large text, a dark theme and screen-awake support is designed for exactly that.

My church sings from a different hymn book. Can you add it?

Please tell us. We prioritize new books by demand and by what we can license properly, and every request genuinely influences the order in which books are added.

Bring your hymn book everywhere you sing.

Download Hymnphony and keep the whole library in your pocket: words, sol-fa, scores and sound.
