Privacy Policy
Your worship is not our product.
We collect as little as we can, explain plainly what we do collect, and never sell personal information.
Last updated: 26 August 2026 · Applies to the Hymnphony mobile applications and this website.
Please note: this policy is published as a working draft ahead of launch. It should be reviewed by a qualified legal adviser and updated with your registered company details, jurisdiction and data-protection contact before the app is released.
1. Who we are
Hymnphony (“Hymnphony”, “we”, “us”) is made by cannykaystudios, which provides the Hymnphony mobile application and this website. If you have questions about this policy or about how your information is handled, write to hymnphony.com@gmail.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what information the Hymnphony app and website collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have over it. It applies to everyone who installs the app or visits this site.
3. Information you choose to give us
- Account details. If you create the optional free account used for Songbooks, we store your email address and an account identifier. You may create that account with your email address, or by signing in with Google or Apple, in which case we receive your email address and a sign-in identifier from them and nothing else.
- Your Songbooks. The hymn lists you build are saved to your account so they follow you to a new device. They are private to you and are not published or shared by us.
- Notification choice. If you turn on hymn of the week notifications, we store the push token your device is issued, so we have somewhere to send them. It is tied to your account only if you are signed in, and turning notifications off releases it.
- Support correspondence. If you contact us, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you and follow up.
- Requests and feedback. Hymn book requests and feature suggestions, including any church or choir name you volunteer.
4. Information collected automatically
- Mistake reports you send. If you tap the report button on a hymn, we receive the hymn book, number and what you tell us is wrong, so we can correct it.
- Nothing else. There is no analytics package in Hymnphony. Which hymns you open, search for or favorite is stored on your device alone and is not sent to us.
5. What we deliberately do not collect
- We do not build a profile of your devotional life. Which hymns you open, search for or favorite is stored on your device alone. It is not sent to us, analyzed or sold.
- We do not require your name, address, phone number or date of birth to use the app.
- We do not access your contacts, photographs, microphone or precise location.
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone, for any purpose.
6. Why we use your information
- To provide the app and keep your Songbooks available to you on any device you sign in on.
- To answer your support messages and hymn book requests.
- To diagnose crashes, fix defects and improve performance and legibility.
- To tell you about a release you specifically asked to be told about, such as a launch waiting list.
7. Legal bases for processing
Where data protection law such as the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract, for providing the app and any account you create; legitimate interests, for security, fault diagnosis and product improvement; consent, for optional analytics and for any email you ask to receive; and legal obligation, where the law requires us to retain or disclose information.
8. Advertising
Hymnphony carries no advertising. There is no advertising network in the app, no advertising identifier is read, and nothing you read, search for or save is shared with any advertiser.
9. Service providers
We use a small number of trusted providers to operate the service: Google Firebase, for accounts and for delivering the hymn books; Expo, whose push service delivers notifications if you turn them on; our website host; and the app stores through which the app is distributed. They act on our instructions and may only use the information to provide their service to us.
10. Data retention
Account information is kept while your account is active. Support correspondence is retained for a reasonable period so we can follow up on recurring issues. Crash reports and anonymised statistics are retained only as long as they remain useful for diagnosis. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted.
11. Security
Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and access to systems holding personal data is restricted to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take our responsibility seriously and will notify affected users and regulators where the law requires.
12. Your rights
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent for optional analytics or email.
- Complain to your local data protection authority if you believe we have handled your information improperly.
To exercise any of these rights, write to hymnphony.com@gmail.com.
13. Children
Hymnphony is suitable for family and school use, and the app can be used without providing any personal information at all. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the age at which consent is required in their country. If you believe a child has provided such information, contact us and we will remove it.
14. International transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection, using recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
15. Cookies on this website
This website uses only what is necessary to serve the pages and keep them secure. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. If optional analytics are introduced, we will ask for consent first.
16. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change significantly affects you, tell you inside the app.
17. Contact
