Hymnphony is a hymn companion app for phones and tablets. It holds hymn books in a searchable library and presents each hymn as lyrics, tonic sol-fa and staff notation, with audio you can slow down and split by voice part.

Yes. The app is free to download and the core experience costs nothing, including the library, search, reading views and offline access. If optional paid additions are introduced later, they will be clearly labelled and never hide the words of a hymn behind a paywall.

iPhone and iPad running iOS 15 or later, and Android phones and tablets running Android 8.0 or later.

No. Every hymn, every view, the audio and the sharing all work without one. An account is only needed for Songbooks, your saved hymn lists, and it is free.

The app itself is small. Each hymn book you download adds to that, roughly comparable to a modest photo album. You can remove books you no longer need at any time.

The Methodist Hymn Book with the Fante CAN edition, the CAN Extras and the Canticles. Hymns Ancient and Modern with the Supplementary hymns, the Canticles and the Psalms. The Catholic Hymn Book and the New Catholic Hymnal. The Presbyterian Hymnal in Twi and English. The Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal in English and Twi, with the N and NG collections. The definitive current list is always shown inside the app on the hymn books screen.

Please tell us. Requests are counted and genuinely determine the order in which new hymnals are prepared. Send the title, publisher and denomination through the support page.

Most modern hymnals are in copyright. We only publish material that is in the public domain or that we have permission to use. Securing that permission takes time, and sometimes it is refused.

Yes. Twi and Fante are both in the app today, and many hymns carry a language toggle so you can switch between English and the local text on the same hymn. More languages follow as rights permit.

Please report it. Include the hymn book, the hymn number and what looks wrong. Corrections are checked against the printed edition and included in a later update.

No. Hymn text, sol-fa and scores live inside the app only. This site exists to introduce Hymnphony, not to republish the material it contains.

Yes. Once a hymn book has been downloaded, everything in it works entirely offline, including the words, sol-fa, scores and audio. A connection is only needed to install the app and fetch updates.

That is exactly what it was designed for. A distraction-free reading mode offers large text, a dark theme and keeps the screen awake so a verse is never interrupted.

Yes. Text and notation size are adjustable, and the reading view is built to remain legible at large sizes rather than simply zooming a picture.

Yes, along with a warm sepia option for evening services and dim rehearsal rooms.

Not yet. You can favorite a hymn, and your reading history is kept for you, but personal annotations are not in the app today.

Yes. Tap share and the app builds a card with the hymn book, number, title, author and up to three verses you choose, with the chorus always included. Scores and full texts are not exported, which keeps everyone on the right side of the license.

Yes. Sol-fa is treated as a first-class notation, typeset for screens rather than scanned, with the same zoom and readability controls as the staff view.

Where the source edition provides four-part harmony, the score view presents it. Some hymnals only publish a melody line, and the app reflects the edition faithfully.

Yes. Soprano, alto, tenor and bass can be played on their own or together, which makes learning a part between rehearsals far easier.

Not yet. The key of each hymn is shown at the top of the score, and where a hymn is set to more than one tune you can choose between them, but changing the key is not in the app today.

Yes. Tempo can be reduced for practice and returned to normal without altering the pitch.

Playback is generated for clarity and accuracy in rehearsal rather than as a performance recording. The goal is to teach the notes, not replace your organist.

As little as possible. Without an account we collect nothing. If you create one for Songbooks, we hold your email address, an account identifier and the hymn lists you build. All three are used only to make the feature work, and never for advertising or tracking. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

We do not build profiles of your devotional life. Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics may be used to improve the app, and you can opt out.

There are no ads anywhere in Hymnphony today, and the reading view will never carry one. Nothing will come between you and the words of a hymn.

Yes, and you do not need to ask us. Open Profile, then Delete account, and it is removed along with your songbooks. You can also write to us at hymnphony.com@gmail.com if you would rather we did it for you.

No. We do not sell or rent personal information.

Check that you are on a stable connection with enough free storage, then retry. If it still fails, contact support with your device model and the book you were installing.

Sign in with the same account and your Songbooks come back. Favorites, reading history and downloads are held on the device itself, so those are set up again on the new phone.

Check the device is not on silent, that volume is up, and that the hymn book has finished downloading. If the problem persists, tell us the hymn book and number.

Use the support page and include your device, operating system version and what you were doing. Screenshots help enormously.

We aim to answer within two working days. Reports affecting a service on Sunday are prioritized.

Yes, and shared collections for choirs are in development. In the meantime a director can share a service plan with the whole team.

Hymnphony is made for reading on a phone or tablet rather than for projection. Projection rights for copyrighted material remain the responsibility of the church, as with any license.

The core app is free, so there is nothing to discount. If paid extras appear, we will consider congregational arrangements.
